Cody Gaynor

Cody is founder and managing director of Figure/Ground Architects, a practice rooted in an understanding of architecture as a critical discourse. His work is based on an inquisitive design process that starts from a firm understanding of the client’s brief and ends with a clear strategy that guides the creation of exceptional buildings and places.

The studio’s work spans a broad range of sectors, with specialism in complex mixed-use projects, masterplanning, housing and schools.

Cody studied at the University of Waterloo in Canada and at the Bartlett in London, where he graduated with distinction. While studying at university, he ran a successful design/build firm in Toronto, Ontario resulting in a number of built projects.

Before settling in the UK in 1997, Cody worked and studied in Canada, Guatemala, Italy, and Germany, developing his design, delivery, and management skills on a wide range of international projects.
