Richard Simmons

Richard is a highly experienced leader in regeneration, development and planning. As CEO of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, Richard advised the Government, local authorities and the private sector on improving implementation of national regeneration and growth programmes such as Housing Market Renewal, Housing Growth Areas and Growth Points and London 2012, as well as leading a staff of 120 and numerous enablers and design review panellists engaged in this and related work.

As Director of Development and Environment for Medway Council in Kent, Richard led the planning and regeneration of a city of 250,000 people in the Thames Gateway, including a strategy for securing public and private investment in infrastructure and development which is ongoing, investment in new roads and rail services, and managing a local authority planning service.
