Jon Rowland

Jon Rowland is the Director of urban design practice Jon Rowland Urban Design Ltd. Jon’s work includes the masterplan for the award winning Telford Millennium Community; and masterplans for urban extensions at Sandymoor in Runcorn, Cottam Hall in Preston shortlisted for RTPI award, West Harlow and Houghton Regis in Bedfordshire. He provided the urban design framework for the NW Quarter of Belfast, and 5 masterplans for key regeneration areas of inner Belfast. He has carried out urban design and urban regeneration strategies based on community engagement programmes for various town centres as well as city centre strategies. Projects for the regeneration of Stranraer and Temple Quay North in Bristol were both shortlisted for urban design awards.

He is a Chair of Design Council/CABE’s Design Review Panel. He was co-editor of ‘Urban Design Futures’ and author of ‘Community Decay’. Most recently, Jon was responsible for putting together a spatial plan for Oxford for the Oxford Civic Society. He was part of URBED’s team that won the 2014 Wolfson Economic Prize for an essay on Garden Cities. Jon is a past Chair of the Urban Design Group, regional representative and enabler for CABE that included assisting on the Eco-towns initiative. He is currently a BEE, an accredited Building for Life assessor; a designated Building for Life 12 examiner and Academician of the AoU.
