There are big changes afoot for Planning in England. Government envisages a radical shakeup of the plan-making process and how planning permission is obtained. Dealing with this change is going to require new ways of working, new technology, and a rethink of the traditional structures within planning departments. A new emphasis on design coding is also emerging, bringing with it new challenges when making plans.

This roundtable discussion will explore this topic in what will be a lively and provocative conversation. Bringing together key practitioners in Surrey and led by Design South East, the session will explore the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

  • Do we have the skills?
  • Are we clear on what needs to be done both now and in the future?
  • How are we going to resource any changes?
  • Are we confident that the proposed changes will bring about positive outcomes?
  • How do we protect design quality as we transition to new ways of working?

Guest Speaker:

Adrian Penfold OBE – former Head of Planning, British Land.

The Roundtable will be chaired by Design South East Director, Chris Lamb, and will use the Chatham House rule.
